While sustainability is a centerpiece of business strategy today, a recent study by the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) found that 72% of companies in the region have established a goal of zero carbon emissions , but for many of these organizations there is a gap between establishing environmental sustainability objectives and taking the necessary actions to meet them. IBM released a new study involving approximately 2,000 executives in 32 countries in manufacturing-oriented industries, reflecting how organizations are prioritizing sustainability but face challenges in executing their strategies.
Below are the main discoveries in Latin America: Sustainability will have greater relevance within the next 3 years: 59% of the organizations surveyed see environmental sustainability as one of their top priorities in the future, compared to 38% who mention it today. Only 49% of those organizations in the Saudi Arabia Mobile Number List region that see it as a priority are effective in achieving their environmental objectives. There is a gap between intention and action to become sustainable companies: 86% of the organizations surveyed in the region have a sustainability strategy as one of their priorities.
However, only 37% of companies in Latin America have taken action to achieve their environmental goals. The environmental cost is an obstacle: Up to 7 in 10 companies in the region expect environmental costs to negatively impact their businesses, while only 1% consider such changes as a positive opportunity. Technology solutions can help drive sustainability: More than half of the organizations surveyed in Latin America believe that IoT (56%), mobile devices (52%) and hybrid cloud (50%) are important to advance their sustainability goals. 70% of global executives considered industry pioneers use hybrid cloud to advance their environmental goals.
