See how bad the concussion was, if you got one. Do you know who you are? What's your name? During the silence in between her bitter question and Aidan's mocking answer, Felicity had eased herself up onto the counter top. It was a hard movement to make but she managed. With water downed blue eyes she looked at his crooked smile. How serious was he about this? The crooked smile made it feel like he wasn't to serious about how her state really was. Though she couldn't help but dwell on his questions. It was a process as she worked over each aspect of memory because she didn't want to give him an answer that wasn't correct. The memories of the time on the beach managed to swim out of the darkest cracks of Felicity's brain. Happiness. Latin. Her name was of Latin origin and meant happy. "Who I am and my name are the same thing jerk face. I can tell you right now though that Blondie is not my name." she stated bluntly. Rather gently she ran her hand through her blond hair while pushing her bangs to the side. "My name is Felicity, not Blondie." She confirmed as she leaned back on her right hand. No matter how much she moved or adjusted the way she sat, she could not get comfortable. Finally after one movement from another Felicity gave up on sitting and slid down onto the floor. She leaned back against the counter and crossed her arms across her chest. "I don't understand why you would beat me up and then stick around to make sure I'm okay." She voiced firmly. It made no sense why anyone would do that or at least to her it didn't make sense. Just trying to think of a reason managed to hurt her head and she cringed in pain. Slowly she sank toward the ground as a dizzy spell fell over her. With gentle hands she touched her temples before wrapping her arms across her chest once more. Then she sat down on the floor and pressed her head against the side of the counter while taking in several slow breaths. During that time it was when Felicity's emotions decided to through her through yet again another loop. She made two fist and hit the base of the counter. Apparently it was angers turn to run ramped through her. She kicked at the ground with her still scabbed over feet. It was like a little kid throwing a fit because they didn't get what they wanted at the market. Finally she broke into tears and buried her face as far into her arms as she could. The pain was terrible and she hated how emotional she was being in front on the person she just was beaten up by. She must look pretty pathetic right now and honestly she didn't care anymore. Previously she had looked pathetic because she was begging for mercy after punching one of Aidan's friends in the face. Maybe she was just a child still. Comments: N/A Word Count: 525

Aidan's smirk quickly turned into a serious line when he saw that she actually had to think when he asked what her name was. Although it was amusing that she still managed to insult him even with her possible memory loss, it was very concerning that she couldn't rattle off her name in a second. If she had a concussion (and he was now almost positive that she did), then it was a lot, lot worse than Aidan had originally thought.

Suddenly, he realized that despite not knowing her own name, she had known who he was. Why? Had he really made...that big of a mark on her? She could just recognize me, he thought. She probably doesn't remember my name. Just to check, he asked her, "Do you know who I am?"

Aidan gazed at Felicity as they talked, noticing that she would not stop fidgeting. Again, this concerned him. She may have always been this fidgety, but everything was making Aidan nervous now, no matter how little it was. She was definitely acting more severely injured than he was comfortable with.

"I don't understand why you would beat me up and then stick around to make sure I'm okay."

That was a good question. Considering Aidan "didn't feel anything for her whatsoever," it didn't make sense that he would care if she was okay, much less actually stay behind to see if she was. Aidan struggled to find an answer, and just when he was about to blurt out some silly, made up explanation, he saw her slide to the ground, holding her head. He could tell it was a dizzy spell, another symptom of mild to severe concussions, and his nervousness began to intensify to the point of fear. Not that you could tell from the outside, but inside he was freaking out. What if he had really severely hurt this girl? Maybe I should've just left her to get beat up by the other guys, he thought to himself with worry and regret.

Suddenly, Felicity started acting extremely moody. First banging her fists on the counter behind her and kicking her legs, then putting her face in her hands and crying. Aidan didn't know if this was a sign of a concussion, but even if it wasn't he didn't care. Felicity needed medical attention. But who should he get? He didn't really know where the doctor was in their town if they even had one. However, there was one person he knew he should probably inform about this dilemma, but he was already on said person's bad side...so he didn't know what to do. Deciding to ask Felicity herself, Aidan crouched down in front of her, resting his hand on her knee in a comforting way.

"Felicity," Aidan started, talking very slowly and deliberately. "I think you might need some help... So should I get your...your dad?" He managed to hide his discomfort in his voice at the thought of Clayton Riddle, but he had to pause in the middle in order to do so. Despite being very uncomfortable with and maybe even a tiny bit scared about meeting Felicity's father again, Aidan would do so if it would help Felicity. He was getting so worried about this girl that he would even go to that extreme.

Felicity had pondered his name for several seconds. She studied him with blue eyes and drew in a deep breath. "Your name is Aidan." She replied lightly but there was still a questioning look on her face and she wasn't quite sure if she had gotten his name right. Hopefully she had because it would be bad and embarrassing if she wasn't anywhere close to his real name. "Felicity, I think you might need some help... So should I get your...your dad? After Felicity's mood swing the sound of Aidan's voice and the hand on her knee she listed her head from being covered. She sat in silence as the words sank into her still pounding brain. A final tear ran down her cheek and with a shaky hand she rubbed the residue of tears away. During her emotional break down she recalled all the past few weeks and everything that happened. "I don't think that is such a good idea." She mumbled looking at her arms that had wrapped around her legs. "After everything that has happened my dad hasn't talked to me and there is no point in starting more trouble than what has all ready occurred." It was true, Felicity's father hadn't talked to her since Aidan and her had been caught kissing. Slowly she shifted back so she her back was against the counter base. Her blue eyes searched the teenager's face cautiously for any emotions that didn't come out in his words. She sighed lightly and even that managed to hurt her ribs. Had they started to bruise all ready? It was a possibility but she wasn't just going to take off her tank top to check. If Aidan left she would or maybe when she was a bit more comfortable around him again but for now she would just assume her body was bruising. "Besides a concussion is the least of my problems, I still have a bad heart so dying in my sleep wouldn't bother me one bit." Felicity stated honestly. Once again another true feeling that she had right now. She closed her eyes and let her head hang limp. Death by concussion seemed like it would be less painful than dying from a heart attack. The pain of her heart just failing on her was something she could never forget. Lifelessly she opened her eyes, lifted her head back up and shifted the way she sat once more. Her arms wrapped around her right leg as she stretched her left leg out. If only she could get comfortable than everything would be all right. "My dad doesn't need to know about any of this. Its bad enough he's drinking so much but if this leaks he'll hurt someone. I don't want anyone else getting hurt. 'Specially someone I care about even though I probably shouldn't." Her voice dropped into a relatively hushed whisper almost as if she was deep in thought and didn't realize she was speaking aloud. Felicity stared blankly past Aidan for several seconds she realized that she wasn't alone. Nimbly she pressed her left thumb and index finger again the the outer most part of her eye socket, the rest of her fingers just fell on her right cheek. "Sorry," she mumbled once she realized how she had been ignoring him but there was no recollection that she had spoken in that time period. Comments: N/A Word Count: 567

Once again, Felicity took too long to figure out what his name was. But at least she got it right. And Aidan's hopes kept going up as she talked about the events of that week; it meant she was starting to recall more and more. The faster the injured person could remember things, the less severe their concussion was...right? Aidan could only hope so.

When Felicity told him not to go get her dad, Aidan just nodded in agreement. He didn't need much convincing. However, he did still want to get some help, especially when Felicity started talking about dying from the concussion. He didn't care if she would rather die from that than from heart problems, he wasn't going to let her die.

"Well, I don't plan on letting you die. So sorry to disappoint you," he voiced his thoughts, managing to sound fairly relaxed when in reality he was anything but. Felicity still had her eyes closed, so Aidan wasn't sure she was paying attention. He knelt down in front of her, relaxing from his squatting position, and was about to say something else to fill the silence when she opened her eyes and started talking.

Aidan could tell Felicity wasn't talking to him--it was like she was talking to the air, or someone else in the room. The point was, he knew he probably wasn't supposed to hear what she was saying. But, being the kind of guy he was, he figured he might as well take advantage of her spaciness and listen since she wouldn't know that he heard. He leaned in a little closer so he could hear the blonde better, and he was surprised by what he heard.

"I don't want anyone else getting hurt. 'Specially someone I care about even though I probably shouldn't."

After all that Aidan had done to her, after leaving her and not coming back, after letting his friends trash her store, after beating her up and knocking her out, Felicity still cared about him? Yeah, he was just a little surprised. He sat in front of her, gaping slightly, until she seemed to come back from her daze and stared right back at him. Aidan suddenly realized how close they were (he had been leaning in quite a bit), and quickly pulled away. Now was not the time to get distracted by their proximity. Or by the fact that she still had feelings for him. Because Aidan absolutely didn't return those feelings. Or so he says.

He took a deep, shaky breath and met Felicity's gaze. "You still need some medical attention. Do you know who I should get, if you don't want your dad?" he asked her, hoping she would know someone since he didn't.

The blue irises seemed to fade as her eyes stopped watering. 'Bout time too. "Well, I don't plan on letting you die. So sorry to disappoint you," The young blonde let out a snort and ended up grinding her teeth in pain. Okay so breathing, snorting, moving and just about everything hurts me, she thought bitterly to herself just seconds before Aidan spoke. "Oh really?" She asked sarcastically while narrowing her eyes. "Man I wish you would have thought that through before bashing my head in." Her left hand balled into a fist but she relaxed it. Fighting even more wouldn't solve anything. Besides she wasn't even in a condition to be left alone much less try to violently throw her petite, battered body around. "You still need some medical attention. Do you know who I should get, if you don't want your dad?" It was probably true that she needed medical attention but honestly this blonde didn't want it. Gently she had watched as the buff career took in shaky breaths. Weird. Why was his breathing to unstable when he was perfectly fine, besides the bruises that would probably form on his hand. Although he had been her attacker Felicity wanted to lean forward and touch his shoulder, spill her heart out that she would be fine as well as whatever came across her mind. She resisted her urge though and tried to remain cool. "I don't need any sort of medical help but thanks for the offer." She stated calmly, "I'll find enough to keep me busy until this all blows over. I mean I can clean the shop until it sparkles if anything." Then another shift. How many times has she shifted? To many that is for sure but Felicity found herself shifting around again and to much, it just increased the throbbing in her head. She pushed herself slowly away from the counters base, giving herself enough room to lay back without having to worry about hitting her throbbing head. After the young teenager was sure she had enough clearance from the counter base, she tugged her tank top off. Screw being comfortable around a jerk, finding a comfortable position to ease her pain was a higher priority. With quick, nimble hands she made a pillow out of her tank top than cautiously laid down. "Why are you here after what you did to me anyways? You could be with your 'friends' causing more mayhem instead of here." She breathed gently. Comments: N/A Word Count: 466

Aidan looked at Felicity after she snorted, curiosity in his eyes.  She was so fidgety and forgetful (making him convinced she was injured), yet at the same time she seemed like her normal old self.  Maybe Aidan just wasn't used to dealing with concussion patients, but he was confused by her behavior.

"Man I wish you would have thought that through before bashing my head in."

Aidan couldn't help but chuckle at the statement as he turned and sat down next to her, leaning his back against the counter.  If she knew how much he had saved her from, she definitely wouldn't be saying that. This reminded him that he hadn't yet told her the reason for all this, when she definitely deserved an explanation.  However, he still didn't plan on telling her until he absolutely had to...which would probably be when she asked him straight out.

"I don't need any sort of medical help but thanks for the offer."

Aidan just rolled his eyes as she continued, insisting that she didn't need help and was just going to wait it out until she felt better.  "Felicity," he began as he turned towards her, "you can hardly remember your own name, how do you--"  he abruptly stopped talking, his eyes widening as he watched Felicity take off her shirt.  "How do you...um..."  Aidan turned his head away from her and composed himself, his expression returning to neutral.  "How do you expect me to believe you don't need help?"

He couldn't help it, his gaze slowly made its way back to Felicity.  He noticed the bruises already forming on her side, and he found himself gently brushing his cool hand against the colored skin.  His eyes moved from the bruises to her eyes, not leaving them even when he pulled his hand away. 

"Why are you here after what you did to me anyways?"

There it was; she was asking him straight up.  If he did what he told himself earlier, he would explain everything to her right now.  Of course, he never was good at following directions, even from himself.  But as he looked Felicity over, gauging how much she would be able to understand, he decided she wasn't coherent enough to remember this later.  Of course, his judgement may have been affected a bit by the fact that he didn't want her to remember his explanation.  Then she might think he had feelings for her, which he supposedly didn't.  However, Aidan still felt the need to explain his actions.

"What you don't know is that I did you a favor by knocking you out, although I know it doesn't seem like it," he started, watching for her reaction.  "If I wouldn't have, my friends would've gotten to you, and they can be pretty nasty--believe me."  He looked down at his hands.   "I was trying to get it over quickly and painle--well, not painlessly, but not as painful as it would've been.  I was just trying to protect you."  He swallowed as his eyes moved back to the bruises on her side.  "But by the looks of it, I didn't do a very good job."  He let his head fall back against the counter, upset with himself for letting his friends give her those bruises.

Why was he chuckling? How was the even remotely funny? She closed her eyes and tucked her hand under her head. Maybe it was funny due to the fact that guys almost never thought everything through. They seemed to go on a whim most of the time or at least all the guys she had met had done so. How do you expect me to believe you don't need help? Finally a smooth question managed to fumble its way into Felicity's ears. Was it really that distracting to a guy when a girl laid shirtless that they couldn't even get a complete thought out without stopping? She had opened her blue eyes when Aidan had said her name. Annoyed she watched as he looked over her. He had seen her at the beach like this too. Nothing had changed since then. Well besides the bruising that was forming on her torso but that was beside the point. She closed her eyes again and took in slow, deep breaths. "Look Aidan, I remember enough things even if it does take me some time to collect the memories. I don't need---" She started, her second sentence ended abruptly. The young blonde's body went stiff and ridged as she felt Aidan's hand brush over her exposed skin. Her eyes opened and she found herself looking at the ceiling before turning to look at Aidan. Although his cool hand felt comforting on her discolored, tender skin, Felicity knew that she wanted his hands no where near her after what he did today. She was about to remove his hand but she didn't have to because he did so himself. Slowly she relaxed and turned her gaze back to the ceiling. How could he even touch her so gently after he gave her that quick beat down in front of his friends? He had shown himself as a monster, someone who only wanted to impress people and didn't seem to care about the outcome of his actions. Now he wanted to care? The thoughts that ran through Felicity's head only caused her to roll her eyes and for her head to throb some more. This sucked. There was a pause between her last question and Aidan's actual answer. She listened and had planned on listening with an open mind. However, the first sentence rubbed her the wrong way. Non-the-less she held her tongue and listened as Aidan continued. She even turned her head to look at him as she spoke. A frowned put itself on her face, not like she had been smiling before or anything. After he finished speaking she looked back to the ceiling and closed her eyes. With her free hand she placed it across her stomach. "You--" She started, "did me a favor? Protected me?" She let out a snort of annoyance. "Cause you know slamming my head against the counter was such a favor and wonderful protection." He words dripped in sarcasm and she rolled over on her side so her back was now to Aidan. "Do the future a favor and don't have kids then." She muttered. Then the silence and her dwelling over her own words. Once more she opened her eyes and then slowly rolled over onto her back, followed by a turn of her head to look at Aidan. "I'm sorry." She really hadn't meant to be mean but right now she had no idea how to handle her words and figure out nice things to say. If there was any for that matter. Felicity had good reason not to understand Aidan’s reaction when she took off her shirt. He had seen her on the beach with the same or less amount of clothing. However, it seemed as though he had forgotten how beautiful Felicity was to him, so it had taken him a little off guard when her shirt was just gone. But now he had composed himself and they were continuing on with the conversation.

There was another bump in their dialogue, only this time it was Felicity doing the stuttering. Aidan had taken her off guard when he brushed her side, and he saw the surprise in her eyes. He had just made her pretty uncomfortable…but he didn’t regret doing it. He continued gazing at her as he spoke, meeting her eyes whenever she turned to look at him. However, this meant he could see the anger growing in her eyes, and he braced himself for her next words.

"You did me a favor? Protected me? Cause you know slamming my head against the counter was such a favor and wonderful protection."

Aidan’s brow furrowed. How could she not understand? How could she not see it? ”Really?” he said in disbelief. ”Don’t you understand? I saved you a lot of pain! Sure, you might have a concussion, but at least I didn’t leave you with them so you could get a bunch of broken bones!” Aidan looked away from Felicity and stared straight in front of him, shaking his head. He just couldn’t believe she didn’t see it. He had said it rather arrogantly, but he still thought she would see how much he'd helped her.

“Do the future a favor and don't have kids then."

Aidan glanced at Felicity, a little surprised by this comment. He pressed his lips together and faced forward again, not showing any emotion. He was thinking about his own father and how terrible of a parent he was. Aidan had long ago decided not to have kids, worrying that he would just end up exactly like his own dad.

”I’m sorry.”

Aidan snorted and shook his head. ”Don’t apologize,” he replied grimly. ”I didn’t plan on it anyway. They’d only end up hating me. I hate my dad, so I assume it would just be the same for me.” He shrugged as if it didn’t mean anything to him, and it really didn’t at the moment. As a teenage boy, he wasn’t really focusing on sadness about not having kids--he was focusing on things like training.

Not really wanting to talk about himself anymore, he said the first thing he could think of. ”Do you want to have kids?” Again, he was a teenage boy. You shouldn’t expect his first thought to be that far off the subject they were currently on. Suddenly, he realized it sounded like he had said ”Do you want to have kids with me,” and as his cheeks started to burn, he quickly tried to amend his original statement. ”I mean…someday, with some guy…” He had only succeeded in making himself sound more stupid. Mentally, Aidan was giving himself a face-palm.

Truly she hadn't meant her words but knowing that he thought his kids would hate him was sad. "If you treated your kids right they wouldn't hate you." She replied softly. Gingerly she sat up and looked at his face and frowned even more. She couldn't tell whether he was truly sad about planning on not having kids or whether there was something else bothering him. ”Do you want to have kids? Felicity blushed at the question and looked down. She crossed her legs and put both of her hands on her shin. What exactly was he asking? Did he mean her and him having kids or just her having kids in general? Silently she bit her lip and then his question was clarified. She took in a deep breath and waited for her cheeks to loose some of their rose color on her cheeks before looking up again. "I'd love to have kids," She started off, "However, in the world we live in I'm not going to. I don't want to raise a kid and then them being ripped away from my life because of those games. Besides my heart is bad, my mom's heart was bad and with how my luck seems to be, my child's heart would be bad." Felicity sighed and grabbed her shirt from the floor. With smooth motions she unfolded it and folded it into a square. Lazily she laid it into her lap, focused on the ground and then looked up at Aidan. "If you survive the games are you going to actually settle down with that girl you're with or is she just a fling?" Comments: N/A Word Count: 415

"You could have not even shown up in the shop and I wouldn't have any broken bones or a concussion or bruises."

Aidan snorted. He could only imagine what his friends would say if he had told them not to trash Clayton Riddle’s store. Especially since they knew about the incident Aidan had had with the man. However, she did have a point... "Well, I’m sorry," he apologized, only sounding half sincere. He hoped that now she would stop pointing out that it was his fault she was hurt because even though he "didn’t have feelings for her," he still didn’t like the thought that he had injured a perfectly innocent fourteen-year-old. It made him sound like a cold-blooded...abuser. (And this was the guy who was training to kill twenty-three other people.)

"If you treated your kids right they wouldn't hate you."

Aidan turned to look at Felicity as she rolled over to say this. He thought about her words for a second, and realized she was right. Most of the reason he hated his father was because he was an alcoholic who abused him. Maybe if he was good to his kids... But that didn’t matter right now. Aidan didn’t plan on having kids any time soon. It was time to change the subject.

Aidan saw that Felicity was just as embarrassed as him by the question he had asked. At least she wasn’t laughing at him...or slapping him across the face... After he clarified the question, he listened to her answer. "I don't want to raise a kid and then them being ripped away from my life because of those games." He couldn’t help himself--he laughed.

"You live in a Career district. Just train them and they’d be fine." He waved his hand as if it was no big deal. To him, it wasn’t. He was even going to volunteer for the very games Felicity was worrying about her children dying in. "If you think about it, the Games are actually a very good opportunity. If you win, you basically don’t have to worry about anything for the rest of your life. Not to mention everyone will love you." Aidan grinned, imagining this is exact thing happening to himself. He couldn’t wait.

"Besides my heart is bad, my mom's heart was bad and with how my luck seems to be, my child's heart would be bad."

Aidan just nodded, showing he understood. He was actually very happy nothing like that ran in his family. Obviously, his biggest concern would be that it would affect how he did in the Games, but also it would just suck being born into something like that. He didn't like things being out of his control, as Felicity’s heart problem was for her.

Aidan sat in silence, not knowing what to talk about until Felicity chose a subject for him: "If you survive the games are you going to actually settle down with that girl you're with or is she just a fling?"

He hadn’t anticipated her asking this question at all. He glanced over at her, confusion in his gaze. Did it really bother her that he was with another girl? Even after what he had just done to her? Hope that she still had feelings for him started to grow inside him, but he quickly shoved it away. It didn’t matter if she felt that way about him. He didn’t care about her, after all. But he couldn’t help himself--he wanted to see how much it mattered to her.

"Julia? Oh, I could settle down with a girl like her," he replied, watching carefully for her reaction. "Not saying that I will, but it feels like more to me than just a fling. And trust me, I know what a fling feels like." He gave her a charming, crooked smile, knowing she probably didn’t like him bringing up the many girls he'd been with, then dumped. However, this was all part of his plan. Now he just had to wait to see her reaction.

Allison listened to Aidan’s snort, his apology and how it was not completely sincere. At least there was some sincerity in his apology though, right? She watched in silence as he thought. What exactly was he thinking about? Lazily she cupped her hand to her mouth to block a yawn and decided to lie back on the ground. Her head rested lightly on her shirt and her eyes searched the ceiling of her shop. After a second she closed her eyes and listened to Aidan explain that her kids would stand a chance in the games because they lived in a career district.

She opened her eyes, blinked twice and then rolled her head to one side to look at the arrogant teenage boy. Clearly they had different ideas on the games and probably always would be. Him training and her trying to avoid the bloody murder of 23 young adults even though her life now gave no certainty she’d live to be an old lady. “If you win you get to suffer with terrible flash backs of the murders you committed. You won’t be the same person you were when you went in. Granted you’re not even the same man I met on the beach. You’re a total jerk now and I despise that about you. How you could flip personalities so fast and yet act like there was nothing.” she replied. ”People will love you but what does it matter if they only love the murdering, survivor you became and not the deeper side of you?”

Lazily she tucked her left arm behind her head and rested her right arm across her torso, her hand gently lying on the bruises that had already begun to form; certainly tomorrow they would be worse. Actually, those bruises would probably mark her skin for a few weeks at least. It would suck. Every time she would go to change in the mirror, she’d see them and think of Aidan, of the monster he showed himself to be. She noticed that he nodded toward her comment about how her children would inherit her medical illness. Maybe she should have just said that instead of starting a debate of some sorts with him. Not like she’d ever be able to sway him to see her side and agree with her.

Then he replied to her last question about that girl he had been practically connected to. She couldn’t help to roll her eyes over every word he said. Honestly, the fact that he planned on settling down with someone that wasn’t her made her sad. She wasn’t even sure why the thought of Aidan with another girl whether long term or a fling made her…jealous, sad and a handful of other emotions she wasn’t used to feeling. “Oh I’m sure you do. Aidan, expert on the science of flings.” She replied with a slight scowl and moving her hand along an invisible line that stated Aidan’s status. Annoyed she turned her head and looked back to the ceiling before letting her eyes roll up. It felt like she was about to cry again and she had no reason to but even if she had a reason she didn’t want to cry; she had already done that once and afterward threw a childish fit. Then she sighed and closed her eyes. Maybe she should ask him to leave just so she could go through whatever emotional breakdown she needed to do tonight.

Aidan was shocked by the way Felicity held nothing back. She spoke exactly what she was thinking, with no filter. Because of her honesty, he now knew that she had noticed the change in his personality (obviously) and seemed to have a liking for the deeper, sweeter part of him. Not that it mattered, now that he had decided he wasn't going to give this girl any more of his time and he just wanted to focus on the Games. However, he couldn't ignore the fact that someone liked that side of him over the arrogant, cool-kid mask he had always put up. It made her different, unique, important, and that was hard to brush off. Especially since she had a point: if no one liked his deeper side like she did, if they only wanted him to be the bloodthirsty jerk that was his mask, then did he want to continue wearing the mask for them or did he just want to be him for her? She was only one person, but he knew if he gave in, she would matter more than all the others who wanted him to be the Career. Now he just had to make the decision.

"You make it sound like the 'deep' side of me" --here he used air quotes-- "is the real me. What if you're wrong?" He turned to look down at the girl lying on the floor next to him. "What if this is the real me and the side you know was all an act just to get you to like me?" His eyes searched hers, partly to see her reaction and partly because he wanted to know which side of him she thought was real. Lately, it had been hard for him to tell. If he wanted to, he could become either character.

“Oh I’m sure you do. Aidan, expert on the science of flings.”

Aidan grinned. "That's me!" His grin sobered a bit and he looked down at his hands. "Honestly though, I don't feel anything special with her. I was joking. After being with..." He stopped himself. He was about to say "After being with you, not many girls seem special anymore," but then he remembered he wasn't supposed to feel that way anymore. He knew for a fact he was going into the Games, since he planned to volunteer. So why was he still clinging to this girl, letting her make him think he should change into some nice guy? He didn't need to think about her anymore. He didn't need to pay attention to anyone in his life now, really. He was ready to just go into the Games, win, and live on his own in the Victors' Village. He had made his decision.

After blinking several times Felicity finally opened her soft eyes for longer than a second so she could pay attention to Aidan. Granted the urge to cry still hadn’t passed but she had contained the direct tears that had threatened to expose how she had truly felt. She turned her head forty-five degrees and listened as Aidan questioned her understanding of him. She rolled her blue eyes when he air-quoted a certain part of his question. But she couldn’t help but ponder for a split second how she knew which Aidan was real and which was just a hoax. She already knew the answer but she looked away and took in a deep breath of air; the pain from breathing in so much air at once sucked but she was definitely getting used to it.

“Well you see Aidan,” She started, “it really is a simple matter to figure out which side of you is genuinely you while the other is a fraud persona.” Gingerly she pushed herself to sit up and turned to face him, her blue eyes searched over him for a brief second. “ Maybe your mind is just so clouded from trying to be a hot shot career but it’s like adding 2 plus 2 to anyone who truly pays attention to both sides, well if you show them both sides anyways. Many of those greatly ego influenced people you hang out with probably haven’t seen the nice side of you. But frankly you were a fool showing me that side and then this jerk that you appeared as previously. Now you’re sitting here struggling between the two.” She stopped speaking so her words could sink in, maybe before she finished talking he’d be able to see where she was going. With a soft hand she touched where he heard had hit the counter before pushing her hair back from her face. Then she continued, “If you had not treated me nice the first time I wouldn’t have known. However, I know. It’s as simple as the fact that after you sought to hurt me to be a tough guy in front of your friends, you stayed here to make sure I was okay. When I showed signs that I wasn’t in the best shape possible, you frantically wanted to get help, even going to my father, whom I’m sure is the cause of your friends and your choice to be destructive.”

Felicity stopped talking and fell silent, her eyes locked onto his before finally dropping down to look down at the floor boards. She glanced up for a second to see him grin over her comment of being an expert on flings. He seemed so proud of it. Why? Then he spoke with honesty and she felt bad for Julia. Did she have actually feelings for him or was he just a fling for her as well? This was something that Felicity would never know because she didn’t care enough to track down Aidan’s side girl to play 20 questions. She couldn’t help but look confused when Aidan cut off his last sentence. What was he going to say? She opened her mouth to asked but shut it and reached for her shirt. Carefully she slipped it back on. “If you feel nothing for her then why are you with her knowing that you could potentially be leading her on and hurt her in the end?” She asked lightly with a quick glance up at him.

Aidan sat with his back against the counter as he took in and pondered what Felicity was saying. Finally, he turned his head to look at her, and all he said was, "You act a lot older than your age." And it was true; this fourteen-year-old girl next to him was probably more mature than he'd be for a very long time. Or until he entered the Games. Killing and struggling to survive tended to rapidly raise your maturity level and make you realize what's really important in life.

"But I think you're wrong," he added. "I've always been this way. I only stayed here because it wasn't right to beat up an innocent girl. That's all. It doesn't mean I'm a 'sweeter' guy who cares as you say, it just means I still have some morals. I can't be who you think is me anyway if I want to win the Games. And I do want to win them. So...sorry." Aidan turned away and leaned his head back against the counter. He didn't care that he probably sounded incredibly stupid, trying to kid himself when he and Felicity both already knew the truth.

“If you feel nothing for her then why are you with her knowing that you could potentially be leading her on and hurt her in the end?”

Aidan turned his head again to meet her gaze. "Well, for one I don't think she actually plans on staying with me. She knows I'm going into the Games, so she realizes this isn't going to be a long-term deal. And even if she did think it was...well, I don't. That's her fault for not knowing what I'm like." The Career shrugged as if what he had just said didn't matter at all. "Why do you care?"

    Felicity couldn't help but role her eyes about Aidan's comment about her seeming older than fourteen. Most girls were more mature than guys actually, apparently he just didn't hang around with the right girls. "Well when you have had a near death experience you change and even more so when your father is a drunk. Someone has to be the responsible one, just happens to be me." She replied sheepishly while adverting her gaze to the floor.

    Slowly she turned so she could stretch out her legs as she propped herself up with the palms of her hand. Sitting in one position for two long still was a challenge. Once again she rolled her eyes. Did Aidan really believe the words that were coming out of his mouth or was he just saying them to say them? "People who are cold blooded and cruel like the character you're trying to be don't stick around to make sure their victim is okay. They don't care. You care. You know what you did was wrong. You have morals." Felicity re-trotted, a bit annoyed that he was being so narrow minded and stuck in his thought of being a bad guy. "I get that you want to survive the games, that is the goal of anyone who gets thrown into that blood bath. Granted, you're going by choice unlike some but everyone's intention is to survive. How many people do you know that want to die?"

    The fourteen year old stopped talking and took in a deep breath, she narrowed her eyes when she looked up at Aidan before looking away. How could anyone be so ignorant and not know who they truly are? Even compulsive liars have some idea of their true self, right? She glanced up long enough to watch as the cocky teenager spoke about his relationship. A fling. Nothing more than just being able to have someone attractive by his side to make him look good. Guys are stupid and so are girls who are fine with such a relationship. Wasn't a relationship suppose to be about love? She looked down and opened her mouth to answer Aidan's question about why she cared however, she had no idea how to answer. Why did she care? Her face held a puzzled expression as she tried to form a logical answer. "I don't know." She mumbled, although deep down she did know. After everything, she still liked him but she couldn't admit that to him.
