Xavier Joseph Hayes
Name: Xavier Joseph Hayes
Nicknames: occasionally Xave (pronounced Zave)
Gender: Male
Age: 30
District: Capitol
Job: Gamemaker (possibly?)
Description: If you asked the female Gamemakers, they'd tell you that Xavier is one attractive man. And really, not many people can argue. He has the usual blue-eyes-blonde-hair combination that people seem to think is very good-looking. Though his hair isn't completely blonde--it's more like a dirty blonde, in fact some would say its very nearly light brown. But still attractive, of course. Xavier is 5'11" in height, and has a very lean, but sturdy build, and for a guy living in the Capitol, he's actually pretty tan.
When you look at his face, you see a sharp jaw and chin, but smoother curves around his cheekbone and eyes. He often has facial hair, which changes regularly from a mustache to a short beard to a goatee--to anything, really, since it seems as though he can pull off anything. When Xavier smiles, you see his perfectly aligned, fairly white teeth. He does drink coffee, though, so they aren't as white as they could be.
Xavier is very serious about his clothes. He always wears the latest fashion and makes it look even better. Even things you think should be left for females, like scarves, look great on him. That's why he can also experiment all he wants with different styles and still look good. It's quite enjoyable for him, and this is why he's developed an especially good friendship with his clothes designer. (In case you were wondering, he also has his own hair stylist.)~~~~~~
Personality: Xavier used to be a sweet, caring young heartthrob, but not anymore. Sure, he's still a heartthrob, but as for the sweet and caring part...not so much. Since his wife died, that side of him was shoved away and replaced with a hard, heartless man. Though he still likes meeting new people and he is always good for a laugh, you can tell behind it all there’s just a tired, wounded man. He just needs the right person to bring that part of him out so they can patch it up and turn him back into the caring guy he used to be. It doesn’t matter if it’s a friend or a lover, but he needs one, and badly. However, it would take a while for the lover to get through to him, since he’s still in love with his dead wife.
Xavier has a very creative, intellectual mind, but he uses it in a terrible way. He’s a Gamemaker. When he could be doing something good for Panem like thinking of ways to overthrow the Capitol, he works for it instead. And his job is to make up entertaining ways to kill children in the Hunger Games. He knows deep down that his wife would hate him for doing this, but everything in his world broke and shattered when she died, and now he can barely tell right from wrong. He even enjoys his job a lot of the time, but he’s so depressed that everything in his world is warped and he doesn’t know that what he is doing is wrong. He just knows he has to do it.
When Xavier is at home, being a regular person, a lot of his time is spent doing things that revolve around music. Always cold, sad, dreary music of course, but at least he does something. He plays many instruments and also often uses his voice. He likes writing too, so he sometimes writes passages for his town’s newspaper. Other than that, he spends his time planning for the next Hunger Games. It works his brain so much, he doesn’t have room to be thinking of his wife. Sometimes when his mind clears, Xavier realizes that this is the real reason he likes being a Gamemaker. It’s not because he doesn’t know it’s wrong, or because he’s actually a cruel man, it’s because being a Gamemaker is the only way he can stop thinking about the woman he loved, who’s dead and gone. But then the depression clouds his mind again, and he doesn't remember why he's a Gamemaker. He just knows he has to do it.~~~~~~
History: Xavier was raised by loving parents, who spoiled him endlessly. They still taught him to be responsible and have good manners and such of course, so the spoiling didn’t turn him into a snob like it would do for most kids. But not with Xavier, he grew to be a very kind gentleman, who loved music and writing and family. His parents were different than most Capitol citizens, for they didn’t like the Hunger Games. They could only imagine if they lived in the districts, and their son was chosen for the Games. Therefore, they hated it and hoped their son would grow to do something about it.
And he planned to do so. He went to school, got good grades, and worked from a young age at ways to help the revolution against the Capitol. He thought of starting a group of spies in the Capitol, of training kids in the districts to fight and pretend it was for the Hunger Games when really it was in preparation for a revolution, and many other ideas. His parents were proud of their boy, and happy that their wish was coming true.
Xavier met his wife when he was in high school. They were high school sweethearts really, and they were perfect for each other. She was responsible when he didn’t want to be, he took on the responsibility when she couldn’t take any more. They were both funny and joked regularly with each other. The things he was terrible at, she was good at, and vice versa. They evened each other out. And the many things they had in common just tied them together more. Xavier loved his wife with all his heart, body, and soul, and he would do anything for her. That’s why it tortured him and still does when he came home to his wife lying dead on the floor, her hands still wet from doing the dishes when the robbers came. Knowing her, Xavier figured she must’ve tried to stop them, and they stabbed her in the gut to get her out of the way. Stomach wounds were always the slowest and most painful ways to die. Xavier wished he had been there to protect her, to take the knife for her, but he hadn’t. And he knew she had lied there on the floor in agonizing pain for hours, waiting for him to come home. But he hadn’t. He didn’t even get to say good-bye.
After that, Xavier was a changed man, only not in the way you usually hear. He took a turn for the worse, letting depression take control and steer him down crazy paths. He turned cold and dark, making friends with the wrong kinds of people and starting to joke in bad ways. He distanced himself from his family, and he no longer knows where they are. He used his creativity and ingenuity for all the wrong things, becoming a Gamemaker and working for the Capitol. Just the opposite of what his parents had hoped. Even though he had been headed for the path of greatness, one death had changed it all.
