For the life of him, Calvin could not stop thinking about her. It was as though he had a disease. He couldn't sleep. For the first time in his life, he had to force remind himself to eat. His mind constantly buzzed with the thought of her voice.
Anyone would think he was falling in love, he thought to himself. Of course, that was a ridiculous notion. He was, to some extent, falling in love, but not with her. He was passionately and irreversibly in love with the concept she had brought to him; the prospect of an attempted rebellion. There was nothing she could have brought him that would have provided him with more elation than he felt when he thought of that.
So, of course, when she had disappeared, he had begun to feel very empty. He would even venture to say that he was feeling somewhat depressed. Now that she was gone, there was no trace left of the hope she had brought him, and with such tremendous information weighing on his mind it was becoming difficult to live the life he had been living before he had met her.
He had to see her. He wasn't sure what good it would do, he only knew that it was imperative that he see her again.
This was his goal, as he wriggled under the fence with practised ease. He had been out in the wilderness with a similar mindframe every single day since he had met the troubled District 13 girl. Today, the snow seemed to have thawed to almost nothing, although it was still bitterly cold. There was something freeing about being out here in the open, breathing the crisp, chill air.
Calvin crossed over to a tree, and seated himself to wait out the evening. He would see her tonight, he told himself.
