Lyra Melody West
Name: Lyra West
Nicknames: Ly
Gender: Female
Age: 29 years
District: District 8
Job: Works at a private owned factory that weaves silk
Description: Lyra has very nimble, piano hands from all the years she worked at the weaving factory. Lyra has a excellent muscle memory in her hands and they are also very sensitive. She enjoys her work as a weaver and loves learning new weaving techniques. Lyra is a thinly muscled individual, her physique mainly focused on her nimbleness and flexible body. Since she was young Lyra has always practiced gymnastics and practices daily to keep her mediocre strength up. She is even capable of some parkour skills. Lyra never cared much for her physique in her younger years but after she meet Roger she changed to keep up with his active ways.
Lyra stands at an average 5'10 and is no means stunning but has a casual beauty to her. She has a matured angular face with light grey eyes. The lack of colour is reflected in her pale blond hair that usually falls around her shoulders in a waterfall of waves.
Personality: Lyra is quite the character; quirky, spontaneous, loud, random, sarcastic, strong headed, patient and lovable. Lyra is a very childish person most of the time. She likes shedding the usual idea of a "mature adult" and just doing things her way. Lyra very rarely has a pattern to the way she does things. Every day she does something different, whether it be taking a new route to getting to work or handing out flowers to everyone she comes across, Lyra just loves surrounding herself with smiles. Lyra's spontaneous nature leads her to trouble at times. Like that one time she thought it would be a good idea to paint the side of the Justice Building with rainbows. Apparently it is consider vandalism, who knew? Poor Roger having to put up with her antics. But Lyra is just the kind of person to push the envelope just because she can. Lyra's spontaneous nature is not necessarily a bad thing. She enjoys impulsively introducing herself to new people and picking up stray animals.
Lyra is a very strong headed person and will very rarely let a person tell her what to do. She has a few choice problems with authority, especially peacekeepers. Lyra will always speak out against their punishments and makes it well known she isn't fond of them in the slightest. This also heads her against the Hunger Games the Capitol hosts every year. Ever since her brother's death at the Hunger Games years ago she makes a point of never watching them if she can help it.
Lyra is a very patient person and has taken to meditation to keep her mind calm. But she can never be called down to earth. Sadly Lyra is a very idealistic and is usually very disappointed with the world when it comes to things like the Hunger Games. It hits Lyra very hard that she cannot do anything to prevent the games. Lyra will always stand up for her own sense of justice. She will always look for the good in the world but rarely finds it in such times.
Lyra can often be described as dancing to her own beat.
History: Lyra Reynolds was born to the upper community of District 7, the only daughter to her parents. Lyra's parents doted on their daughter and spent most of their time with Lyra. Lyra easily smitten her parents with cute smiles and happy laughs. To this no one knows what happened on that dreadful night, but 6 months after Lyra's birth the Reynold's household was set ablaze. Lyra's mother tossed her daughter out of the third floor window, into the arms Wade Watson a peacekeeper in District 8 before dying in the fire. Wade took Lyra in as his own daughter along with his three year old son, Isaac. Lyra grew up oblivious to her heritage and never bothered to ask, despite the obvious differences between herself and her family.
The presence of Peacekeepers in District 8 was different than other districts. The Peacekeepers were nice to the citizens because it was usually the citizens that made all the materials that they utilized. But Peacekeepers will be Peacekeepers. In her younger years Lyra witnessed Wade punishing multiple citizens because of their mistakes. Lyra was appalled by his behaviour but was too afraid to say anything.
As Lyra entered her teenage years she slowly started breaking off from her family more and more. Wade and his wife worried frantically over their adopted daughter. They were always afraid Lyra would be chosen as a tribute in the Hunger Games. They knew she would not last a second in the arena. While all their worry lay on Lyra, Isaac was lost in the sea of emotions. When Lyra was 10 and her brother 13, Isaac was chosen as tribute. The entire family, no more so than Lyra. She was stuck to the screen watching her brother's last days in the arena. Wade tried to get Lyra away from the screens but Lyra was resolute to watch her brother to the bitter end. That bitter end came a week later when Isaac was stabbed by another tribute. Lyra feel into despair for weeks after the death of her brother. She only came out of it when she saw Wade punishing a citizen for some reason or another. She strode right in front of the whip that raining down on the poor old man's back and ordered her father to back off. Wade tried to get Lyra to stand down but she stubbornly wouldn't move. The peacekeepers released the old man and put Lyra in his place. Wade was forced to preform the punishment on his daughter. The two of them were in tears by the end of it.
This was the beginning of the end for Lyra's family life. Lyra became down right fearful of Wade and barely spent any time at home, but rather staying at friends houses for weeks at a time and wandering around her home district, trying to find some form of peace. It was around this age that Lyra took up meditation. The old man she had saved from the peacekeepers willingly taught her how to calm her mind and find a form of inner peace.
At the age of 14 Lyra took a job as an apprentice a weaving shop that was owned by a cheerful elderly lady, the wife of the old man she had saved. The old lady specialized in silk weaving and happily taught Lyra the tricks of the trade. A year later Lyra was an expert weaver. The elderly couple heard of Lyra's troubles at home and offered her the small apartment above the store as a permanent home. Lyra gratefully accepted and moved out of Wade Reynold's house in the dead of the night. From then on Lyra had very little contact with Wade.
Lyra spent the next few years following a similar pattern until she meet Roger at the age of 21. She instantly fell for him and the two were married three years later. Lyra's best memories of her life come from the past few years with Roger. She thinks of him as the light of her life, the reason she went through a rough childhood. Lyra could not think of any better way to spend the rest of her days, together with Roger.
