NAOMI NESS NORTH
Name: Naomi North
Nicknames: Nami
Gender: Female
Age: 21 years
District: District 7
Job: Book Maker, takes the trees harvested from District 7's forests, turns them into paper and prints books for the capital.
Description: Unlike a lot of the ladies from District 7, Naomi has a willowy look to her. With her stick arms she looks like she can barely life an ax. Sharing food between herself, her parents and five siblings left very little food for Naomi. Her childhood left her rather malnourished and a little stunted in height and stature. Naomi stands at a short 5'4 and is always towered by her younger brothers that grew to be 6'0. Naomi has long since learned that height means very little compared to composure. While she isn't very tall, Naomi always stands with a proud, straight spine and head held high, never afraid to stare someone right in the eye. Over the years Naomi regained some health that shows in her developed muscles. Knowing she could never hold her own in a real fight, Naomi concentrated her skills in running and sabotage.
Naomi has paper white skin, developed from years of indoor work, craning her neck over books. Her hair is an earth brown colour, never wanting to listen to her and usually sticking in every direction. Naomi's eyes are a dark green colour.
Personality: Naomi lives up to her bookish stereotype that comes with her job. She prefers to listen, rather than talk and keeps to herself most of the time. This unsuspecting woman likes to work from the shadows and is an expert at deflecting attention from herself. Naomi is quite the charismatic character; never one to give up a chance to speak her mind freely or help friends in need. Naomi's greatest strength is in her words. Words flow from her mouth like poetry and are the source of fuel that keeps the rebellion flame in District 7 lit. Naomi strives for change and equality among all the districts. She is by no means idealistic but some part of her still has some childish hope that Panem can find peace one day.
Where Naomi lacks in strength she makes up in cunning. After spending numerous years making books, Naomi isn't just book smart but street smart. She can be very inventive when she wants to. You should see what she can do with a piece of paper, tin foil and a pot of ink. Naomi has a photographic memory for things she reads, from the ingredients on a box of cookies to the medical dictionary.
For all her bravo and smarts, Naomi is easily fluster. Whether it be a compliment or flirtatious attention, Naomi can easily turn bright red and start stammering. Naomi is also prone to anxiety attacks from worrying.
History: Naomi was born the eldest child in a family of six. Naomi's father worked day and night in the forest, cutting down trees and harvesting them to be made into products for the Capitol. Her mother was responsible for planting trees and caring for them. Naomi is the only daughter out of the six children, and her mother's favourite. Naomi was always the black sheep of the family, while her siblings were all loud and rowdy, Naomi was mature and reserved one. She grew distant from her family at an early age and started living on her own at the age of eighteen. Naomi found her little light of joy in her life being around books. Naomi's job in district 7 was to make books from the paper produced by her District. Naomi created everything, from magazines to dictionaries and became well versed in the culture of the Capitol. For a long time Naomi would gaze at the Capitol culture with envy and jealousy, but these feelings quickly turned to disgust and disappointment. Every year when the Hunger Games rolled around the Capitol would be all twittering about the event, never batting an eye at the killing that happens. It sickened Naomi when she saw the bets, entertainment and gossip that surrounded the games. While in her home District it wasn't uncommon for families to burst into tears when their child was killed. But year after year Naomi bit her tongue and clenched her hands in a fist to stop and wayward outburst. The silence didn't last long. In Naomi's 19th year, one of her brothers was picked as a tribute. It nearly made Naomi's heart stop when his name was chosen. Naomi's family were not so silent, they yelled, argued and cried as their brother and son was carted to the Capitol like a lamb to the slaughter. Naomi's brother didn't survive the initial bloodbath of the Cornucopia.
Torn by the grief, Naomi's father got into an argument with the Peacekeepers which did not end well. The fight escalated and the entire district was thrown into chaos. The riot only ended when Naomi's father was shot in the heart. Horrified, the crowd watched as the Peacekeepers made an example of Naomi's eldest brother as well. Unwilling to loose any more family, Naomi stepped up and calmed her family, willing them to think straight. The Peacekeepers didn't release the bodies of their brother and father until a week after wards, after countless hours of pestering and begging from Naomi's mother.
From that day on Naomi harbored a great hatred for the Hunger Games and Capitol. Her actions of defiance against the Capitol caught the attention of the local District 7 rebels. They invited Naomi to join their ranks and she gladly accepted.
At the age of 21, Naomi now stands as one of the heads of the rebel movement in District 7. She uses her book making skills to keep an eye on the Capitol and is one of the top informants for the rebel movement.
