Description: Calvin's tall for his age at 5'11", nearing 6', which doesn't make for an easy time down in the mines. Like the majority of the residents of the Seam, he is dark-haired and grey-eyed, with a distinctive olive-coloured complexion.
Many men who descend into the mines are inclined to keep their hair close-cropped, for utility and comfort, but Calvin chooses to keep his. Secretly his thick, dark hair is something he prides himself on, although he isn't particularly one for vanity.
He has strong, angular features and is relatively handsome, except for his badly-healed broken nose, which has a rather indiscreet .
Personality: Calvin has a very strong personality and is outspoken about his views, a trait which often gets him into trouble. He is charismatic and confident; others trust and respect him because of his honesty and determination.
He has a very clear sense of wrong and right, a strong conscience with he feels compelled to obey and a deep disgust in regards to the Capitol and the Hunger Games. However, he values his family too much to attempt rebellion; he would not risk their lives for anything.
Despite his way with people, deep down he's a bit of a recluse. He enjoys his own company and can often be seen sneaking under District 12's fences to spend a little time by himself. He has a strong instinct for independence and relishes solitude.
Unfortunately for him, his charisma and strong opinions have made him relatively popular amongst his peers, and he has difficulty escaping many of his own age, most of whom look up to him and desire his friendship.
History: Calvin was born an illegitimate child, and never did find out the identity of his father. He resides in the Seam with his mother, a reclusive, sickly women who rarely leaves her house and relies heavily on her son. He loves her dearly, but is closer to his aunt and uncle, who he visits regularly. They are proud, resourceful people and treat him as they would their own son. He, in return, puts his name down for extra tessarae in order to provide for them as well as his own mother. Whilst they strongly disapprove of his own sacrifice for their sake, he will not allow them to refuse his offer, insisting that it is what he owes them for their kindness.
To this day, Calvin has never asked his mother what she did for money before he was old enough to drop out of school and go down the mines. To some extent, he'd rather not know the answer.
As he grew older, he became more and more outspoken, and his fury at the Capitol grew. Whilst this earned him a great deal of popularity from his peers, it had the opposite effect in regards to the Peacemakers. His views earned him a broken nose, but not quite a broken spirit. This clash only enraged him further.
He has had a couple of brief romantic encounters, but his life revolves around providing for his family, and he has no time for anything else.
